Adorable. And practical. That's the new collection of kiddie clothes by Stella McCartney for GapKids and babyGap.
It has all the basics: jeans, hoodies, a fairisle sweater, leggings, even duck boots. But it's also got some cute dresses, a tulle ballerina skirt and a wonderful braid-trimmed, Sgt. Pepper-style "band jacket."
Last week, actress Liv Tyler hosted a party to introduce her friends and their kids to Stella's Gap collection. At left, Liv shows off that ballerina skirt.
Model Amber Valetta, right, shares a laugh with young models wearing Stella's designs, including that band jacket.
Stella, of course, is the daughter of ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, and rocker photographer Linda McCartney. She's been interested in designing aince she was 12, later studied design, and had her graduation collection modeled by friends Kate Moss, Yasmin Le Bon and Naomi Campbell — for free!
She became creative director at Chloe, the Paris fashion house, in 1997, moved on to a collaboration with Gucci in 2001, and launched her own skin-care line, CARE, two years ago. She also has done limited-edition, budget-priced collections of H&M, Target — and now Gap.
She and husband Alasdhair Willis have three kids — which is probably why her kiddie designs, through super-cute, are also so wearable. And, I'll bet, the kids of looks little guys and girls will love. Check them out at your local GapKids and babyGap store.
